Smooth Hound

The smooth hound is not really an eating fish, but is a great sport fish especially on light beach gear or a bass rod. Sometimes confused with a tope, but the lack of any real teeth is the easiest way to tell. They have grinding skate-like teeth, used for grinding food such as crustaceans, cephalopods and fish.

Specimens can reach almost 5ft, but fish around 3ft are more common.

They come inshore during warmer months, at times swimming well up into brackish estuarial waters.
