The steps at Charmouth are just West of the carpark, the seabed is mainly sand out to about 150 yards where there is the start of a reef. This is mainly a shallow beach fished best a couple of hours up to high tide and an hour back down. A small groin either side of the steps gives bit of a feature to entice fish in close.
This venue is mainly fished by people targeting the bigger Bass during or straight after rough weather. Whole Squid, Mackerel Heads, and large Joey Mackerel baits tend to be the preferred method, mounted on strong 4/0 or 6/0 hooks. Casting out to about 30 yards maximum is all that is needed here for the Bass.
This venue can also produce Plaice, Rays, Flounder, Dogfish, and Pouting.
